There are three runways at the airport. Two of them are primarily for use by airline traffic. They are 4-Left/22-Right (8,273 feet in length); 4-Right/22-Left (7,200 feet in length), and Runway 18-36 (5,124 feet in length) which is used primarily by smaller, privately owned aircraft. More than $35 million has been spent upgrading Runways 4-Left/22-Right and 18-36. All three runways are now constructed of stronger, longer-lasting concrete.
A Category III instrument landing system allows continued safe operation of Runway 4-Left/22-Right in period of inclement weather, particularly dense fog. This translates into fewer delays and canceled flights.
The airport traffic control operation at Little Rock National is housed in a new state-of-the-art ATC Tower located just off Grundfest Drive. The tower is as tall as a 12-story building. In 2001, controllers handled more than 148,000 takeoffs and landings.
The airlines purchased 11.6 million gallons of jet fuel at Little Rock. Other aircraft using the airport purchased a combined total of 6 million gallons of gasoline and jet fuel.
